MatteID

Last updated 2026-11-07

MatteID is made by Aether Syntax. Where these documents say “we”, they mean Aether Syntax.

Both documents are stored inside the app and open without an internet connection.

What MatteID does

MatteID helps you produce a document photograph that follows the requirements an issuing authority has published. It reads those requirements from the authority's own material, measures your photograph against the ones it can measure, and tells you plainly which it could not check.

What MatteID does not promise

MatteID is not a government app and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting for any issuing authority. MatteID cannot guarantee that any photograph will be accepted. Acceptance is decided by the issuing authority, which may apply judgement, local practice or requirements it has not published. When a photograph passes, MatteID says it passed MatteID's own checks for the requirements that were verified — nothing more. Treat any claim of guaranteed approval as false, including from anyone reselling this app.

Where the requirements come from

Each document in the app links to its issuing authority's official website. Where a requirement was read from an official publication, the app names that publication and the date it was read; where it comes from a table compiled for MatteID instead, the app says so. Authorities change their rules and do not always announce it, and some publish nothing at all. Where a requirement is unverified, missing or disputed between two official sources, the app says so on the document's own row rather than filling the gap with a guess. Confirm the requirements with the issuing authority before you submit.

Saving or printing a finished photograph uses one credit. A credit is taken only after the file has been produced and checked; a failed export costs nothing and retrying it is free. Credits have no cash value, do not expire, and belong to the store account that bought them.

Payments and refunds

All payments are handled by the App Store or Google Play under their own terms. Refunds are requested from the store, not from Aether Syntax, because we never hold the payment.

Using the app properly

Use MatteID to make a photograph of yourself, or of someone you are entitled to photograph such as your own child. Do not use it to misrepresent who you are or to make a photograph for a document that is not yours. You are responsible for what you submit to an authority.

Your photographs remain yours

You keep every right in the photographs you make. Aether Syntax claims no licence over them and cannot — they never reach us.

Availability

MatteID works without an internet connection once installed. Buying new credits needs a connection because the store does. We may change or stop offering features in future versions; credits already granted remain usable.

Limits of responsibility

MatteID is a tool for preparing a photograph, not advice about an application. Aether Syntax is not responsible for a rejected application, a missed deadline, a fee paid to an authority, or any other loss arising from a decision an authority makes. Nothing here limits rights you have under the law of your country that cannot be limited by agreement.

Changes to these terms

These terms are stored inside the app and change only when the app is updated. Continuing to use a new version means accepting the terms that version carries.
